AOD cut-away view

The AOD transmission was produced from 1980-1993 and was used in a wide variety of Ford/Lincoln/Mercury cars and light trucks. The hydraulic pressure system is modulated through the use of a linkage or cable connected to the throttle plate, as opposed to the familiar vacuum modulator. The compound planetary gear train is similar to the earlier FMX. Its powerflow is also similar, except that in third gear, the input torque is split between two shafts. It is this very unique dual input shaft arrangement, from which Lentech Automatics has derived various altered powerflows. Realizing the potential of these altered powerflows and rugged geartrain ,this was the first transmission Lentech chose to pioneer.
